New 2018 Lexus UX SUV specs The new Lexus UX has made its debut at Geneva, and will rival the BMW X2 when it arrives towards the end of 2018 Lexus has revealed further details for its all-new UX small SUV at the Geneva Motor Show. The brand's first-ever compact crossover will go on sale later this year, with a choice of hybrid and petrol engines, as well as the option of front- or four-wheel drive. The Lexus UX SUV takes the brand in a new direction. Chika Kako, UX chief engineer said: "Right from the start I focused on the target market; mid-30s, millennials. "We tried to understand how they would expect a premium compact vehicle to change their lives and enable new experiences. That’s what led us to the basic vehicle concept for the UX." The firm's latest SUV will rival cars like the Audi Q2 when it goes on sale, as well as all-new models like the BMW X2, Jaguar E-Pace and Volvo XC40. However, the UX's bold styling should ensure it stands out in what is becoming an increasingly-crowded market. Familiar details such as the gaping grille, slim LED lights, rising shoulderline and sculpted bonnet can be seen in the front-end, while the single-bar rear light profile takes Lexus in a new design direction. The interior shows an evolved dashboard design over current Lexus models, with LFA-style switchgear, digital dials, and a widescreen infotainment system. The UX is the first Lexus to sit on Toyota's GA-C global architecture, and along with the new platform the crossover will see the debut of two new powertrains. The first will debut in the UX 250h; a 2.0-litre petrol-electric 'self-charging' hybrid with 176bhp. All models get a CVT auto gearbox, although there will be a choice of front or 'E-Four' all-wheel drive. In addition, Lexus will launch its new baby SUV in UX 200 guise, fitted with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The in-line four-cylinder unit is said to use "high-speed combustion to achieve enhanced thermal efficiency". It'll come with the brand's first 'Direct Shift-CVT', which allegedly offers all the efficiency of a conventional continuously variable transmission (CVT), but with a "direct driving feel". No power or torque figures have been announced, and it's not clear whether it'll be available in the UK. Safety will be a key selling point for the UX, which will come with the latest version of Lexus Safety System+, including a pre-collision system and radar detection. Lexus Co DRIVE adds Lane Tracing Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control, while Auto High Beam and Road Sign Assist also feature. Specs haven't been announced, and UK specific details won't be revealed for some time, though Lexus has confirmed there will be a racy-looking F Sport variant. Flooded with chrome details, 18-inch wheels and bigger bumpers, the Lexus UX F Sport will compete with cars like the Audi Q2 S Line and BMW X2 M Sport. Inside, you'll find sports seats and F Sport steering wheel and aluminium pedals, while suspension tweaks and a Sport S+ drive mode should make it sharper to drive. The UX follows on from the concept version shown at the Paris Motor Show back in 2016, bringing the concept to life almost two years on from its debut. 2019 Lexus UX vs Volvo XC40 Lexus UX Lexus hosted the world debut of the new Lexus UX at the 2018 Geneva Motor show, a free-spirited crossover crafted expressly for the modern urban explorer who seeks a fresh, contemporary and dynamic take on a luxury lifestyle. Chika Kako, Chief Engineer of the UX said: "Right from the start, I focused on the target customer - mid-30s, millennials, men and women - and tried to understand how they would expect a premium compact vehicle to change their lives and enable new experiences. That's what led us to the basic vehicle concept for the UX of Creative Urban Explorer - a new genre of crossover. "Design is still the main purchase reason for every car, it is the design that promises to the customer what the car can deliver. With the UX the design team have created a style which delivers the strong safe feeling that sets crossovers apart from hatchbacks, but combined it with a very dynamic dimension. "We also focused on giving the UX a distinctive driving feel that would resonate with the customer. I wanted to overturn the image of a crossover with a high body that requires careful manoeuvring and offer a car with nimble performance and excellent manoeuvrability that make it as easy to drive as a hatchback." The Lexus UX is a new gateway vehicle for Lexus, it is rich in the qualities that define the brand: brave design, superior craftsmanship, exhilarating performance and imaginative technology. The Lexus UX further marks a series of technical innovations, including the first use of the new global architecture platform named GA-C, which delivers fundamental high structural rigidity and a low centre of gravity, thus securing excellent ride quality and stability. New powertrains are also deployed for the first time: a new 2.0-litre petrol engine that reaps the performance and fuel economy benefits of high thermal efficiency; and a new mid-power, fourth generation self-charging hybrid system. Volvo XC40 The XC40 is Volvo’s all-new compact crossover, the automaker’s smaller and sportier alternative to its larger XC60 and XC90 crossovers. At the beginning of its launch, the 2019 Volvo XC40 will come equipped with the T5 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine that produces 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and is backed by an eight-speed automatic that routes power to a standard all-wheel drive system. Later in production, a base front-wheel drive model will be powered by a T4 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 tuned to make an estimated 185 hp and 195 lb-ft and is also backed by an eight-speed automatic. Volvo claims a quick 6.2-second 0-60 mph time for the XC40 and we look forward to confirming this in an upcoming First Test review. Like all Volvos, the XC40 comes well-equipped with several driver assist safety features including the City Safety emergency automatic braking system with pedestrian, cyclist, vehicle, and large animal detection. Also standard is an automatic steering collision mitigation system, lane keep assist, run-off road mitigation, and a rearview camera. The Vision package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, a self-parking system, a surround view camera system, and self-folding side view mirrors. Offered in the Convenience package, the Pilot Assist semi-autonomous drive system consists of adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality and lane centering. A road sign information feature, driver alert assist, and post-impact braking are additional standard safety features. The XC40 comes standard with lots of technology including a large 9.0-inch center screen with Sensus Connect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth and three USB ports for smartphone connectively. A navigation system and a 13-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system are optional. A 12.3-inch instrument panel driver’s display is also standard, and the wireless smartphone charger, automatic parking system, surround view camera system, and Pilot Assist semi-autonomous drive system are options. Hot News !!! Lexus UX 2019 Spec & Price -Lexus has finally introduced its first compact crossover, and it is the first Lexus model to feature the brand’s new GA-C platform. In the looks department, it looks like a slightly blown up but more proportional LC500 with a family-oriented look too it. Meanwhile, the interior is very German-like in design, to a point, and yet ergonomic and stylish at the same time. Instead of shifting around engines from other models to piece together it’s new crossover, Lexus put together an all-new four-banger for the entry-level UX 200 model while a different but new gas engine and a fourth-gen hybrid system found their way into the UX 250h.
