GAC Motor, which claims to be China's fastest growing automaker, said it would exhibit at the NAIAS, better known as the Detroit auto show, in 2018. Rod Alberts, executive director of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) and North America International Auto Show (NAIAS), attended GAC Motor's launch of several models at the 2017 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition and officially invited GAC Motor to join the show next January. The automaker said it expected to return to NAIAS in 2018 "with a blockbuster lineup, including GM8, GA8, GS8, new mass-production sedan GA4 and an all new concept car". Company president Yu Jun aid the strategic goal had always been "creating a world-class Chinese brand that reaches the global market". So far, GAC has established a global sales and service network in 14 countries covering the Middle East, south east Asia, eastern Europe, Africa and North America. "GM8 marks a new milestone that completes our high-end product lineup, we are entering an all-new era as we position our brand towards the high-end market," he said. "We are building the first North America R&D Center in Silicon Valley this year and planning to enter the North American market by 2019." Guangzhou show launches included the Trumpchi brand GM8 MPV, targeting the SAIC-GM joint ventures top selling Buick GL8, a smart electric concept car called iSPACE and the autonomous GE3. Of the GM8, Jun said: "The Chinese auto market is seeing a growing demand for spacious and practical MPVs that can accommodate family and business needs." said Yu Jun, president of GAC Motor. "With the all-around GM8, GAC Motor aims to refresh the high-end standards of Chinese MPV market and redefine its landscape in the new age of high-end vehicles." It further claims to be the first Chinese automaker to cover the mid- to high-end sedan, SUV and MPV market with the GM8, GA8 sedan and GS8 luxury SUV. GM8 sales in China start on 30 December priced from CNY180,000 to CNY270,000 (US$27,000-$41,000). The second generation self-driving vehicle, WitStarII, was developed from the company's first electric vehicle, the GE3. It uses high precision sensors, including 64-beam Lidar, a 360 degree camera and 77G millimetre wave radar that will work under different road conditions. GAC exports the made-in-China Trumpchi to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Chile. At home, the six-year-old brand has sold 800,000 units. The 2018 GAC Trumpchi GS4 SUV, which starts at 99,800 yuan ($14,600), is the second-best-selling sport utility vehicle in China after Great Wall Motor’s Haval H6.
