Why these all-white paintings are in museums and mine aren't

Why do all-white paintings sell for millions of dollars and end up in museums? Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO So-called "white paintings" are in museums all across the world and Robert Ryman's all-white painting "Bridge" sold for a record $20.6 million at a Christie's auction in 2015. How are these seemingly plain white paintings considered art and why is it that not anyone can pick up a tube of white paint and make one? We talk to Elisabeth Sherman, an assistant curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York about why there is much more to these paintings than meets the eye, and while you could have painted on of these priceless pieces of art, you didn't. Franz von Defregger: A collection of 53 paintings (HD)

Description: "Franz von Defregger was an Austrian artist best known for his representations of rural life. The artist’s style is characterized by the use of tonal colors and visible brushstrokes, which he used to depict street scenes, tavern interiors, and young children. He is often identified with the painting The Storyteller, in which a mother sits in a darkened room as she tells a story to her four children. Born April 30, 1835 in Stronach, Tyrol, Defregger developed an interest in the arts from an early age, studying woodcarving and drawing under sculptor Michael Stolz. Despite his low social standing, he obtained admission to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1861, where he became associated with the Munich School painters, working alongside Ludwig von Heterich and Dixie Selden. Thereafter, he received further training at the École des beaux-arts in Paris, and subsequently took part in the Salon des Refusés in 1863. Defregger died on January 2, 1921 in Munich, Germany. His work is currently held in the collections of the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, and the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, among others."
