Samuel Peploe: A collection of 270 paintings (HD)

Samuel Peploe: A collection of 270 paintings (HD) Description: "Born in Edinburgh in 1871 and educated at the Collegiate School in Charlotte Square, Samuel John Peploe had good academic ability but no interest in the professions, preferring to walk, sail or sketch. By 1893 he was enrolled for classes in The Trustees' Academy, the forerunner of Edinburgh College of Art, and the following year was in Paris at the Academie Julian under the neo-classicist William Bouguereau, and later at the Academie Colarossi. Long study nurtured his natural ability and helped him perfect an early style based on the Dutch masters. From 1901, Peploe began a lifelong habit of taking painting trips to northern France and to the Hebrides, with J D Fergusson. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Glasgow Institute from 1900 and had his first one-man show at the Scottish Gallery in 1903. By 1906 his earlier still life and figure paintings, characterised by dark backgrounds, gave way to paler colours, greys and pinks. This was in part due to a move to a new, lighter studio in York Place. His second exhibition in 1909 was successful but his eyes were turning to Paris and the next year he moved and married Margaret MacKay whom he had met on a painting trip to Barra in 1894. France liberated his palette as evidenced by Fauvist panels painted in Royan (1910), Cassis (1911, 1913) and in Paris. His stuido paintings show the influence of Van Gogh and de Segonzac. The Peploes came back to Edinburgh in 1912 with dozens of paintings much too advanced for Edinburgh. Rejected by his old dealer, Peploe put on his own show a the New Gallery in Shandwick Place, where the Society of Eight had their inaugural exhibition in the same year. For the next fifteen years Peploe retained a brilliant palette, evolving a mature style containing elements of Cezanne, the Jazz Age and Matisse. By the late 1920's he had reverted to a more sonorous, tonal painting, still enlivened by brilliant colour chords, but weightier and cooler. In 1933 he taught two terms at the College of Art in Edinburgh, making a considerable impact. Best known for his still lifes of tulips, Peploe had a wide range of subjects including figure painting and particularly landscape. Jean Michel Basquiat: A collection of 135 works (HD)

Jean Michel Basquiat: A collection of 135 works (HD) Description: "Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American graffiti artist who rose to prominence in the 1980s for being one of the leading lights of the neo expressionist era of the time. His father was employed as an accountant and although he had taught himself to read and write as a child, he did not do as well as he would have liked at school. He dropped out of school and instead studied at a school of alternative education where he learnt art. Although his father had forced him to leave the house after quitting school, he started selling T-shirts in order to take care of his expenses and after a few years he partnered with a friend to create SAMO, a group that painted graffiti in buildings in New York. His work as a graffiti artist got him noticed as an up and coming artist and it was the same work that got him work with a T-shirt company. He even had his own musical band that performed at particular nightclubs but it was as a painter that he made his mark in the 1980s and his work found a lot of buyers due to the high demand of new expressionist art." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Dreams Become Real Dreams Become Real by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1500027 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

George Stubbs: A collection of 295 works (HD)

George Stubbs: A collection of 295 works (HD) Description: "George Stubbs was the finest horse painter that England has ever produced, combining a profound knowledge of horse anatomy with psychological insight, naturalistic observation and a calm, classical sense of composition. Born in 1724, the son of a Liverpool currier, he was largely self-taught as an artist. About 1741 he studied briefly with Harriet Winstanley, an artist from Warrington, Lancashire. Four years later Stubbs studied anatomy at York Hospital, illustrating Dr John Burton’s Essay Towards a Complete New System of Midwifery (1751) with drawings made from dissections at which he had assisted. From c.1741-56 Stubbs made a living painting portraits, such as that of his earliest patron Sir Henry Nelthorpe, 5th Bt, and his second wife, c.1745 (Nelthorpe Collection). He went briefly to Rome in 1754. In 1756 Stubbs started eighteen gruelling months studying the anatomy of the horse by dissecting corpses supplied by tanneries at a farmhouse in Horkstow, Lincolnshire. The fruit of this were exquisite drawings, engraved by Stubbs and published in The Anatomy of the Horse (1766). In 1758 Stubbs settled in London, where his anatomical drawings attracted the attention of wealthy patrons with a passion for breeding and racing horses. In 1759-60 he painted three large hunting, shooting and racing canvases for the 3rd Duke of Richmond (Goodwood House, West Sussex); in 1762 he painted the celebrated Grosvenor Hunt for the 1st Earl Grosvenor (Eaton Hall, Cheshire). The same year Stubbs painted his first commissions for the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham: the near-life-size Whistlejacket (National Gallery, London) and the friezelike Mares and foals without a background (Fitzwilliam family collection). Horse attacked by a lion, 1762 (Yale Center for British Art, New Haven), also painted for Rockingham, showed Stubbs adapting Romantic sturm und drang to an animal subject. Stubbs exhibited at the Society of Artists from 1761 to 1774 and was its President in 1772-3. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1775-1803, becoming an Academician in 1781, an honour later withdrawn because he refused to submit a Diploma painting. Stubbs was a fine observer of human beings – from stable lads to languid aristocrats – as well as horses. He also painted exotic animals, mythological works and poetic, rustic scenes of Haymakers and Reapers, 1785 (Tate Gallery, London). He experimented with mixed method engraving techniques and, with the help of his friend Josiah Wedgwood, in painting in enamel colours on Wedgwood ceramic supports. From the early 1790s Stubbs’s financial difficulties were ameloriated by the patronage of the Prince of Wales (later George IV), for whom he painted at least eighteen oils. Among Stubbs’s latest, most monumental images is the exhausted racehorse Hambletonian, rubbing down, 1800 (Mount Stewart House, Co. Down, NT). George Stubbs died in London in 1806." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Jean Mannheim: A collection of 167 paintings (HD)

Jean Mannheim: A collection of 167 paintings (HD) Description: "Jean Mannheim (1863 - 1945). Born in Bad Kreuznach on the Nahe, Germany on Nov. 18, 1863. After being drafted into the German army, Mannheim deserted and fled to France where he studied art at Ecole Delecluse, Académie Colarossi, and with DeLancey and Bouguereau. Having learned book binding early in life, he used this trade to support himself while studying art in Paris. Upon immigrating to Illinois in 1884, he painted portraits in Chicago and taught in a Decatur art school. About 1903 he accepted a position at Frank Brangwyn's school in London and stayed for two years. Returning to the U.S., he taught at the Denver Art School until 1908. He then made his final move to Pasadena and built a home in the Arroyo Seco. Mannheim maintained a studio in the Blanchard Building in Los Angeles where he exhibited and taught, and in 1913 founded the Stickney Memorial School of Fine Arts in Pasadena. His figure studies and landscapes prior to 1915 were tighter and done with a restricted palette; whereas, his palette then lightened and he adopted the loose brushwork of Impressionism. He died in Pasadena on Sept. 6, 1945. Vu Cao Dam: A collection of 99 paintings (HD)

Description: "In 1908 Vu Cao Dam was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. As a youth he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Indochine, and graduated from there in 1931. After graduating, he moved to Paris where he had gotten a scholarship to study sculpture, but soon afterwards he started painting.

In Paris he painted for eighteen years. Eventually Vu Cao Dam left Paris to travel to the South of France where he continued painting. He focused painting sole women, women with children, and women with horses. He had a very distinctive style which blended both Occidental and Asian techniques. His paintings were very colorful harnessing many different shades of pastel-like colors: light blue, rose, pink, and gradations of white. He primarily used black for eyes and hair.

During his time in the south of France Vu Cao Dam also became a friend of Marc Chagall who influenced his work. At this time his work also became influenced by the Impressionists such as Matisse and Bonnard.
In 2000 Vu Cao Dam died in France."
