2018 BMW M5 vs Mercedes-AMG E63 S | Super Saloons tested | Autocar

The new BMW M5 is a terrific sports saloon. Or super saloon. Or sports sedan. Call it what you will: it's a big four-door executive car with a stonky twin-turbocharged V8 making shed loads of power, which it puts it through all four wheels - unless you stick it in rear-drive mode, in which case it only puts it through the rear wheels, obvs. Subscribe now: http://smarturl.it/autocar And if that sounds familiar, that's because it's exactly what the Mercedes-AMG E63 saloon does too: what with its four-door body, luxurious executive car interior, twin-turbocharged V8 engine and four-wheel drive with the option of rear ... well, you get the idea. But which of these big saloons is best? Both as an everyday executive car, but also as an enjoyable car to drive. Step forward Autocar's two video-ready testers, as we find out which you should have: BMW M5 or Mercedes-AMG E63 S. New videos are uploaded to Autocar each week. Don't miss a single one. First launched in mid 1980s the E28 M5 was based on 535i, but under the bonnet it had the modified M1 engine (the infamous BMW-Lamborghini joint venture). Back in the day BMW M5 was the fastest sedan on the market. Fast forward 30 years, and we’ve got the 600 hp sixth gen F90 M5. V8 in this one propels it from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Currently Audi doesn’t offer RS6 sedan, and Avant is slightly slower. Porsche Panamera Turbo is also slower, and it’s a liftback. This leaves us with Mercedes E AMG 63 S with 4MATIC+. No current Jaguars, Infinitis, Maseratis or anything remotely premium comes even close. I’m not counting Tesla, because it’s not really a sedan either. Starting price: 118 000 EUR As tested: 160 000 EUR Also watch: BMW M5 https://youtu.be/kYWpF1NSSdY BMW M3 https://youtu.be/b7n8Bms9W6Q BMW M2 https://youtu.be/6Ci8LAR4rFI Alfa Romeo Giulia Q https://youtu.be/iw1H-9sZRv0 Ferrari California T https://youtu.be/USppIuvpIkI Porsche 911 https://youtu.be/SVQ_3JHjJ8w BMW 540i https://youtu.be/wrWji6L7uwI Follow me: www.wieruszewski.com facebook.com/marekdrives @mwieruszewski plus.google.com/+GarazOtwarty/ instagram.com/marek_drives #MarekDrives #BMWM5 #F90
