Clarence Gagnon: A collection of 135 works (HD)

Clarence Gagnon: A collection of 135 works (HD) Description: "Clarence Alphonse Gagnon was a painter, draughtsman, engraver and illustrator who was born in Montreal on November 8, 1881. From 1897 to 1900, Gagnon studied drawing and painting under William Brymner at the Art Association of Montreal. In 1904, Gagnon left for Paris to work in the studio of Jean-Paul Laurens at the Académie Julian. He was able to distinguished himself early in his career by the fine quality of his engravings. Gagnon won a gold medal at the St. Louis Exhibition in 1904 and an honourable mention at the Salon des artistes français in Paris in 1905. From 1909 to 1914, Gagnon moved between Canada, France, and Norway; always working up the sketches he had made in Quebec. Gagnon became a member of the Royal Society of Canada and in 1910, became an associate member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and a full member in 1922. In 1923, he received the Trevor Prize of the Salmagundi Club of New York. Between 1924 and 1936, Gagnon spent time in Paris and traveled throughout Europe. It was during this period that he illustrated a number of books, including Rouquette's, Le grand silence blanc (1929) and the deluxe edition of Louis Hémon's Maria Chapdelaine (1933), a story that celebrated Canadian frontier life. Upon his return to Quebec in 1936, the Université de Montréal awarded him an honorary doctorate. Clarence Gagnon died in Montreal on January 5, 1942. He was sixty-one years old." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Armand Guillaumin: A collection of 497 works (HD)

Armand Guillaumin: A collection of 497 works (HD) Description: "Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin (French 1841–1927) is one of the original members of the group of artists who started Impressionism, though he did not achieve the fame and repute of his contemporaries. The artist was born in Paris, and worked a series of odd jobs while honing his drawing skills in evening lessons. The lessons led Guillaumin to attend the Académie Suisse, where he met Camille Pissarro (French, 1830–1903) and Paul Cézanne (French, 1839–1906). The artist showed several of his paintings at the 1863 Salon des Refusés. In the 1870s, unable to make a living as a painter, Guillaumin moved to Pontoise, a tiny village where he was able to find night work. This allowed him to paint during the day, using the natural light for which the Impressionists are so well known. Cézanne eventually joined the other artists in the village, and he and Guillaumin briefly took up residence together. It was during this period that they participated in the first ever Impressionist exhibition in 1874. In the 1880s, the artist made the acquaintance of Vincent Van Gogh, (Dutch, 1853–1890) whose brother, Theo, would later help him to sell a few pieces. Perhaps due to the influence of Van Gogh’s bold style, the following decade saw a shift in Guillaumin’s use of color, he began to use brighter and more expressive hues to define his compositions, almost in anticipation of the Fauve movement. During this late period of his life, the artist traveled throughout France and Europe. Guillaumin died in 1927 at the age of 86 in Orly, Val-de-Marne, making him the last remaining survivor of the Impressionist group." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

John Sell Cotman: A collection of 166 works (HD)

John Sell Cotman: A collection of 166 works (HD) Description: "Landscape artist, John Sell Cotman was one of the most important figures in the development of 19th century English watercolour painting. Born in Norwich he was - along with John Crome (1768-1821) - one of the prominent leaders of the Norwich School of painters, a group of East Anglian landscape artists who were influenced by 17th century Dutch Realists. Little is known of his beginnings in art, but he did spend time in London, and toured Wales and Yorkshire making sketches and watercolours. He returned to Norwich in 1806. His style was highly original; his landscape painting employs clearly defined areas of colour structured by abstract patterns and shapes. His most famous landscape paintings were those he made on his trip to Yorkshire between 1803 and 1805, such as Chirk Aqueduct (1804, Victoria & Albert Museum, London); and Greta Bridge (1805, British Museum, London). He also painted several marine paintings, such as The Mouth of the Yare (Sphinx Fine Art, London). Between 1810-21 he published etchings of the antiquities of Normandy and Norfolk which were warmly received. He was survived by his sons John Joseph Cotman (c.1812-78) and Miles Edmund Cotman (1811-58) - both painters who also became members of the Norwich School." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Maxime Maufra: A collection of 173 works (HD)

Maxime Maufra: A collection of 173 works (HD) Description: "Maxime Maufra (French, 1861–1918) was a painter and printmaker loosely associated with the Pont-Aven school and best known for his marine landscapes. He was trained by the landscape painter Charles Le Roux in his hometown of Nantes in France. After visiting Britain in 1883 and seeing the work of Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, and J.M.W. Turner, Maufra gave up his business career to become a painter. He traveled extensively throughout Normandy and Brittany, where he met Synthetist painters Paul Sérusier and Paul Gaugin at Pont-Aven in 1890. The flat planes of vivid color in Maufra’s seascape The Cliffs at Beg-ar-Fry, Saint-Jean-du-Doigt (1895) indicate the influence of Synthetism. Maufra first exhibited his work at the Paris Salon in 1886 and later with Parisian dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. Maufra’s work is currently held in the collections of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, among others." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Francis Cadell: A collection of 184 works (HD)

Francis Cadell: A collection of 184 works (HD) Description: "Francis Cadell was born in Edinburgh, the son of Francis Cadell FRCSE, a surgeon His childhood home was at 22 Ainslie Place on Edinburgh's prestigious Moray Estate, and was educated at the Edinburgh Academy. His sister was Jean Cadell a well-known actress. From the age of 16 he studied in Paris at the Académie Julian, where he was in contact with the French avant-garde of the day. While in France, his exposure to work by the early Fauvists, and in particular Matisse, proved to be his most lasting influence. After his return to Scotland, he was a regular exhibitor in Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as in London. Cadell was a left-handed painter. While a student, the President of the Royal Scottish Academy tried to stop him painting with his left hand because 'No artist ever became great who did so.' Cadell swiftly replied 'Sir and did not the great Michelangelo paint with his left hand?' The President did not respond and left the room quickly. A fellow student asked Cadell how he had known that Michelangelo was left-handed. Cadell confessed 'I didn't know but nor did the president.' Cadell spent much of his adult life in Scotland and had little direct contact with many of the new ideas that were being developed abroad. He therefore tended to use subjects and environments that were close at hand – landscapes, fashionable Edinburgh New Town house interiors, still life and figures in both oil and watercolour. He is particularly noted for his portraits of glamorous women whom he painted in a loose, impressionistic manner, depicting his subject with vibrant waves of colour. He enjoyed the landscape of Iona enormously, which he first visited in 1912 and features prominently in his work. During the 1920s he spent several summers with Samuel Peploe, another Scottish Colourist, on painting trips to Iona, and was also friends with the Scottish architect Reginald Fairlie. During World War I he served in the 9th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and the 9th Royal Scots regiments. He lived at 6 and 22 Ainslie Place, Edinburgh from 1920-1932. During this time he befriended Reginald Fairlie who lived at 7 Ainslie Place and they remained friends thereafter. He then lived at 30 Regent Terrace from 1932-1935 where he found it more and more difficult to sell his paintings because of the economic climate. He finally moved to 4 Warriston Crescent where he died in poverty on 6 December 1937. Two of his paintings were offered for over £500,000 in 2009. Cadell's Estate is represented by Portland Gallery, London." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support! #LearnFromMasters #ScottishPainter #FrancisCadell #OnlineArtGallery #CollectionOfPaintings #ArtHistory #TASCHEN
