Albert Bierstadt: A collection of 404 paintings (HD)

Albert Bierstadt: A collection of 404 paintings (HD) Description: "Albert Bierstadt (American, 1830–1902), a landscape painter who focused on the American West, was born in Solingen, Germany. His family immigrated to Massachusetts in 1833, when he was just two years old, but he returned to Germany to study at the Düsseldorf School of Painting in 1853. While in Germany, he roomed with painter Worthington Whittredge; the two traveled Europe together, and, while in Switzerland, Bierstadt sketched the inspiration for Lake Lucerne. This painting was exhibited by the National Academy of Design in New York in 1858, and led to his being elected to the National Academy in 1860. The artist taught briefly in Germany after finishing school. He moved back to the United States, and traveled west with surveyor Frederick W. Lander in 1859. While there, Bierstadt sketched much of what he saw, and turned many of those sketches into oil paintings. Along with his brothers Charles and Edward, Bierstadt opened a photography studio in New York in 1860, which closed six years later, in 1866. He the traveled west again in 1863 with author Fitz Hugh Ludlow, and continued to return to the West for inspiration as time went on. Bierstadt painted pictures on oversized canvases that romanticized the Rocky Mountains, the Yosemite Valley, and the Native American tribes. In 1867, Bierstadt married Ludlow’s former wife Rosalie. In 1882, his studio was destroyed in a fire along with many of his sketches. Over his lifetime, he painted at least 500 paintings, including The Last of the Buffalo and Yosemite Valley, both of which have been featured on postage stamps. The artist also mentored William Bliss Baker, another landscape painter. Bierstadt was a member of the Hudson River School, a group of like-minded artists. Mount Bierstadt in Colorado is named after him. The artist died in Irving, NY, in 1902." Feel free to subscribe!

How to Create Sellable Art

Tim Packer answers the question: "What is Sellable Art?" Sellable Art is great art with a unique voice. Great art must have a great concept, a great composition and be masterfully executed. A Unique Voice refers to that certain something that makes a painting instantly recognizable as the work of one particular artist. To develop a successful career an artist must be able to create great work with a unique voice. Jozef Mehoffer: A collection of 55 paintings (HD)

Jozef Mehoffer: A collection of 55 paintings (HD) Description: "Mehoffer was born in Ropczyce, studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Władysław Łuszczkiewicz, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, as well as in Paris at the Académie Colarossi among others. There Mehoffer began painting portraits, often of people of historical significance. He later expanded his work to include different techniques, such as graphic art, stained glass, textiles, chalk drawings, etchings and book illustrations. He produced set designs for theatre, and stylized furniture designs. Mehoffer received international acclaim for his stained glass windows in the Gothic St Nicholas Collegiate Church in Fribourg, Switzerland produced in 1895-1936. His other stained glass designs include the Radziwill Chapel in Balice (1892), Grauer Chapel in Opava (1901), church in Jutrosini (1902), Holy Cross Chapel at Wawel (1904), sepulchral chapel in Goluchów (1906), Orgelmeister Chapel in Vienna (1910), cathedral in Wloclawek (1935–40), cathedral in Przemysl (1940) and church in Debniki near Kraków (1943). There are stained glass designed by Mehoffer in Jesus Holliest Heart in Turek (East Greater Poland - central Poland); in the same church there are also mural paintings made by Mehoffer. Mehoffer explored various media further throughout his career to include a range of applied arts in his projects. He manufactured a multiplicity of book covers, ornaments and posters. Mehoffer - aside from his versatility in studio art - became known for his frescoes often reminiscent of medieval art. He frequently collaborated with Stanisław Wyspiański and Jan Matejko. He died in Wadowice." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Johan Hendrik Weissenbruch: A collection of 92 paintings (HD)

Johan Hendrik Weissenbruch: A collection of 92 paintings (HD) Description: "Dutch painter, part of a family of artists, cousin of Jan Weissenbruch. He referred to himself and signed his work as Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch. The first generation of the family included the amateur painter and collector Johannes Weissenbruch (1787-1834) and his brother, the engraver Johan Daniel Weissenbruch (1789-1858), three of whose sons were also artists: Jan Weissenbruch (1822-1880), who was widely known for his sun-drenched townscapes, the lithographer Frederick Hendrik Weissenbruch (1828-1887) and the engraver Isaac Weissenbruch (1826-1912). Johannes's son Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch was a watercolour painter of landscapes and beach views and is regarded as one of the masters of the Hague School; a younger son, Frederik Adrianus Weissenbruch (1826-1882), was an engraver. The third generation included Jan Hendrik's son Willem Johannes Weissenbruch (1864-1941), who was also a painter. From 1840 Jan Hendrik attended drawing lessons with the Norwegian painter Johannes Löw, and from 1846 he was taught by Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove (1790-1880) at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague. His early paintings clearly show the influence of van Hove and Andreas Schelfhout (1787-1870), although it is uncertain whether he was actually taught by the latter. His father, an avid collector, owned works by both artists. Weissenbruch copied the works of the seventeenth-century Dutch artists and painted in the area surrounding The Hague, Haarlem, and Arnhem. He became a significant open-air and watercolour painter of the Hague School." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Gustave Loiseau: A collection of 564 works (HD)

Gustave Loiseau: A collection of 564 works (HD) Description: "Gustave Loiseau was born in Paris, 3rd October 1865; he was to become one of the foremost of Post-Impressionist painters. Following his military service and having worked for the family firm, Loiseau visited Pont Aven in 1890, where he worked under the tutelage of Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), following the latter’s return from his first visit to Tahiti. Although taught by Gauguin, Loiseau was a disciple of Claude Monet (1840-1926), adopting a Post-Impressionist style that owed a significant debt to Monet, seen clearly in his views along the Seine, his portrayals of the cliffs at Dieppe & Étretat and the towns and landscapes of the Dordogne Valley. In 1893 Loiseau first exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants and in 1895 at the Salon Nationale. By 1894 the Parisian dealer Durand Ruel had taken up Loiseau, a dealer renowned for his work with the first generation of Impressionists. Loiseau was a great traveller, painting throughout France but was drawn primarily to Normandy, the Dordogne and Paris, unlike many of his contemporaries the heat and light of the Mediterranean coast held few attractions. Loiseau lived for much of the latter part of his life in Paris by the Quai d’Anjou, painting views and scenes of life in the city. His work was and is widely collected, with patrons throughout Europe and the United states by the early years of the 20th century. His works can be found in museums in: Madrid, The Thyssen Museum; Versailles; Atlanta; New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Emil Carlsen: A collection of 183 paintings (HD)

Description: "Emil Carlsen was born in Copenhagen on October 19, 1853. He studied architecture at the Danish Royal Academy between 1868 and 1872. He emigrated to America in 1872, settled in Chicago, and found work as an assistant to a local architect. For a time he also worked for a fellow Dane, the painter Lauritis Bernhard Holst (1848-1934). When Holst returned to Denmark in 1874, he turned his studio over to Carlsen, who had by this time decided to become a full-time painter. Upon the recommendation of the Chicago sculptor Leonard Wells Volk (1828-1895), Carlsen was appointed the first instructor at the newly formed school of the Art Institute.

In 1875 Carlsen returned briefly to Denmark and then went to Paris, where he stayed for six months. While there, he carefully studied the works of the eighteenth-century painter Jean Siméon Chardin (1699-1779). Returning to New York in 1875, the artist set up his own studio, but he had to supplement his meager income from painting by working as an engraver and designer. In 1879 financial difficulties forced him to hold an auction of thirty of his works, but the proceeds did not even cover the sale's expenses.

In the early 1880s Carlsen began to develop a reputation as a still-life painter. Commissioned by a dealer to paint saleable flower pieces, he returned to Paris in 1884, where he remained for two years, painting numerous brightly-colored pictures. Eventually, he grew tired of this repetitious work and broke the contract he had made with the dealer. Carlsen went back to New York and opened a studio on West 57th Street. He worked there until 1887, when he began a two-year tenure as director of the San Francisco Art Association's school. He resigned this post in 1889 but remained in San Francisco until 1891.

Carlsen again settled in New York in 1891 and began teaching at the National Academy of Design, where he would continue as an instructor until 1918. He was married in 1896 and numbered among his friends in New York William Merritt Chase, J. Alden Weir, and Childe Hassam. During the first three decades of the twentieth century his works were included in numerous exhibitions and he won many prizes. In 1911 he began an association with the New York dealer William Macbeth, and was given one-man shows at Macbeth's gallery in 1912, 1919, 1921 and 1923. Carlsen died in New York on January 2, 1932."
