Aarde blijkt toch plat

Moses Soyer: A collection of 49 paintings (HD)

Moses Soyer: A collection of 49 paintings (HD) Description: "Moses Soyer was a significant figure in the American realist movement at the beginning of the 20th century. Soyer was born in Russia in 1899. He and his family, including his twin brother, Raphael Soyer, also a well-known artist, immigrated to New York in 1912. Soyer’s everyday experiences in New York, with its diverse population and bustling activity, were the primary inspiration for his art. Soyer’s training began at Cooper Union, National Academy of Design, whose formalistic curriculum he left in favor of continuing his studies at Ferrer Art School in Spanish Harlem. There, Soyer studied painting and drawing with the more advanced Ashcan school artists Robert Henri and George Bellows. Artists associated with the Ashcan school in the early years of the twentieth century sought to capture New York scenes through realistic and unglamorized representations of everyday life. Known primarily for his drawings and oil paintings, Soyer had his first solo exhibition in 1926 and was awarded a scholarship enabling him to travel to Europe to study drawing. During the 1930s, when the United States was at the height of the Great Depression, the Works Progress Administration, a part of the New Deal, commissioned Soyer to paint murals in government buildings throughout the country. Soyer’s art emphasized the depiction of the natural attitudes, thoughts, and gestures of individuals in performing everyday tasks. Throughout his career, Soyer’s art remained close to the representational rendering and simple subject matter of the Ashcan artists and the realism of Edward Hopper and Thomas Eakins. After World War II, as many artists delved into Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting, Soyer continued to paint within the realist canon and achieved recognition for his work. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1963 and in 1966 to the National Institute of Arts and Letters." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Montague Dawson: A collection of 211 paintings (HD)

Montague Dawson: A collection of 211 paintings (HD) Description: "Montague Dawson was born in London, the son of a sea captain. His grandfather was the successful Midlands landscape painter, Henry Dawson (1811-1878) who had himself moved to Chiswick. Montague Dawson studied under the marine painter Charles Napier Hemy (1841-1917) who, born in Newcastle, lived in London for some years before moving to Falmouth. On completing his studies, Dawson joined a commercial studio specialising in nautical illustrations. Dawson served in the Royal Navy, he contributed illustrations to magazines including “The Sphere”, and having witnessed the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet in 1918, a complete issue of The Sphere was dedicated to the event. After leaving the Navy, Dawson took up painting full-time, living first in London before moving to Milford-on-Sea in Hampshire. Dawson had first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1917, a Naval subject “The Eyes of the Fleet”, and although frequently painting contemporary marine and naval compositions, his particular interest was in historical works, clipper ships and galleons. Whatever the subject, his paintings are marked by his acute attention to historical detail and his knowledge of ships and the sea. His popularity was such that the New Mariners Museum in Newport Rhode Island opened a wing devoted to his works in 1975, and Presidents Eisenhower and Johnson owned paintings of the US Navy Frigate Constellation. A member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and a fellow of the Royal Society of British Artists, Dawson was the foremost marine painter of the 20th century. His works can be found in museums in: Cambridge; Edinburgh; London and Newport Rhode Island." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

James Sant: A collection of 88 paintings (HD)

James Sant: A collection of 88 paintings (HD) Description: "Born on the 23rd of April 1820 in Croydon, James Sant was a prolific and successful portrait painter and from 1892 was appointed principal painter-in-ordinary to Queen Victoria. He had many other patrons amongst the noble and landed families in England, hence he must have been a painter entrepreneur. He studied under John Varlye and Sir A.W. Callcott before entering the Royal Academy London Schools in 1840. Between 1840 and 1915 he regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy in London and presented his portraits as well as allegorical and genre scenes. Sant was favoured with commissions of portraits by a large aristocratic circle led by Lady Waldegrave, whose gallery at Strawberry Hill was filled with his portraits of her friends. Among them were many Duchesses and Countesses in abundance and his flattering paintings of these noble ladies were unsurprisingly liked by his sitters and their husbands. However, he himself and a world of admirers were better pleased with his idealized pictures of children and young women, especially those that had biblical or religious associations. His “The Infant Samuels” was a great success in 1853 and when Cousins made an engraving of it, the picture became popular in hundreds of homes. At the end of the nineteenth century he adopted a freer style, influenced by John Singer Sargent. “The Soul’s Awakening” was his 1888 entry to the Academy and is probably his best known painting. Alf Cooke of Leeds made an engraving of this picture, of which the sentimentality delighted the public. It was referred to in an interview with James Sant in Great Thoughts magazine in December of 1897. Sant was elected Associate Royal Academician in 1861 and Royal Academician in 1869. On his Royal appointment he was commissioned to paint Queen Victoria and the three eldest children of the Prince of Wales as well as a state portrait of the Turkish Embassy. Among others he also painted Archbishop Tate, Lord Russell and Adeline Patti." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Meditation Impromptu 03 Meditation Impromptu 03 by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100161 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support! #LearnFromMasters #BritishPainter #OnlineArtGallery #CollectionOfPaintings #OilPaintings #ArtHistory #JamesSant

Ferdinand Bol: A collection of 110 paintings (HD)

Description: "A prosperous surgeon's son, Ferdinand Bol first studied locally in his native Dordrecht, and then became Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn's pupil in Amsterdam, where he settled. Bol witnessed a document concerning Rembrandt's wife Saskia's inheritance in 1640, a responsibility that suggests that by then Bol was probably no longer a student but a full-fledged assistant.

After having risen quickly through the ranks in Rembrandt's highly productive studio, Bol established himself as an independent master around 1642. He imitated Rembrandt's style so closely that some works were mistaken for Rembrandt's for centuries afterward. Although his style changed, throughout his career Bol painted the same subjects as Rembrandt: histories, portraits--often with sitters posed by a window--and exotically costumed single figures.

Around 1650 Bol's taste drifted to more "modern" trends: His palette lightened, and his figures grew more noble and elegant. No other painter in Amsterdam equaled him in receiving official commissions; his 1653 marriage to a woman from an influential family undoubtedly helped. Among Bol's most important works were classicizing Baroque paintings of historical subjects for Amsterdam's new town hall. After marrying a wealthy widow in 1669, he gave up painting."
