How to Sharpen Kitchen Knives

In today's video I show you how I got a razor sharp edge on my old kitchen knives using the Lansky Controlled Angle Deluxe Diamond Sharpening System. I've got a number of kitchen knives that we've had for 15 years or so (a wedding present!) and I've never managed to keep them sharp. I've tried various sharpening systems with limited success. Recent trawls of the internet led me to conclude that if I want to get a truly sharp edge on my knives, I had to do it with some sort of a controlled angle system. There are a massive array of manual and electric sharpening systems out there, but they receive mixed reviews when compared to the controlled angle systems. I couldn't justify paying £199 or £269 for one of the Edge Pro systems, and so I decided that the Lansky Deluxe Diamond Sharpening system looked like a good compromise between quality and price. I came across a company that seemed pretty knowledgeable - and gave them a call to check that they agreed with me that it was worth the investment. The guys at Knivesandtools were pretty clued up, and they suggested I also buy a strop - something I had never even heard of before their suggestion. So here's the result - I hope you find it useful! How To Sharpen a Knife

Standard sharpening system ($22): Diamond system, shown in the video ($55): Stand for the sharpening system ($8): More info and links in the description below. Sharpening a knife can be dangerous, so make sure you are careful and go slowly! This video shows how to sharpen a knife using the Lansky knife sharpening system. Sharpening a knife with a stone can be daunting for beginners, so I wanted to present an easier method that produces consistent results. This process can be be used on hunting, camping and kitchen knives with no problems. After you've gotten a kitchen knife razor sharp with this method it's easy to keep it that way with a steel hone or a strop. The knife sharpener that I show in the video is much kinder to your knives (and much more effective) than the carbide 'pull through' sharpeners. The first time you sharpen the knife will require the most work, after that any subsequent sharpenings will be easier and will remove much less material from the blade. This process works on any knife steel. If you have any questions regarding how you should be sharpening or maintaining your knives feel free to ask in the comments! PLEASE NOTE: I am not affiliated with Lansky in any way, I use the product and I think it works well, that's the only reason I'm recommending it. Spend the extra for the diamond system if you can afford it. They both work well, but the diamond system is faster. The diamond version will also work much better on steels that have high carbide content like D2, S30V, S35V, M4, and so on... How to Sharpen a Knife: How to use the Lansky Sharpening System + Review

In this video I'm showing how to use the Lansky Sharpening System plus a quick overall review. I show the differences in the Standard, the Deluxe, the Diamond and the Diamond Deluxe versions of this Lansky Sharpening System and show you how to set up and use the kit to sharpen a knife from completely blunt to razor sharp without even stropping. The Lansky sharpener doesn't come with a strop whichever kit you decide to buy, be it the standard or deluxe, the normal or the diamond but you can sharpen your knives to razor sharp without so I show without. Lansky also sell a strop for this sharpening kit but I showed without.. plus I don't have one. For this video I sharpen a kitchen knife that was completely blunt using the standard 5 stone deluxe kit, for my next Lansky tutorial I will sharpen a knife using my Lansky diamond sharpening kit. Thanks for Watching! Hope you liked and enjoyed it or found it informative. Please give it a Like and Subscribe for more videos. Cheers.
