Action Painting Surrender / HCLFV

Title: Surrender Medium: Acrylic on canvas Size: 50 x 65 inches http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_painting Action painting, sometimes called "gestural abstraction", is a style of painting in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed or smeared onto the canvas, rather than being carefully applied. The style was widespread from the 1940s until the early 1960s, and is closely associated with abstract expressionism (some critics have used the terms "action painting" and "abstract expressionism" interchangeably). A comparison is often drawn between the American action painting and the French tachisme. The term was coined by the American critic Harold Rosenberg in 1952,[2] in his essay "The American Action Painters",[3] and signaled a major shift in the aesthetic perspective of New York School painters and critics. According to Rosenberg the canvas was "an arena in which to act". While abstract expressionists such as Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline and Willem de Kooning had long been outspoken in their view of a painting as an arena within which to come to terms with the act of creation, earlier critics sympathetic to their cause, like Clement Greenberg, focused on their works' "objectness." To Greenberg, it was the physicality of the paintings' clotted and oil-caked surfaces that was the key to understanding them. "Some of the labels that became attached to Abstract Expressionism, like "informel" and "Action Painting," definitely implied this; one was given to understand that what was involved was an utterly new kind of art that was no longer art in any accepted sense. This was, of course, absurd." - Clement Greenberg, "Post Painterly Abstraction".

Jan Steen: A collection of 183 paintings (HD)

Jan Steen: A collection of 183 paintings (HD) Description: "Jan Steen was a famous Dutch genre painter, born in the seventeenth century. His paintings were marked by chaotic abundance of color. He drew his subjects mainly from the daily life around him. Born in a family of tavern keepers, it was natural that many of his paintings had tavern as a background. Merrymakers were one of his favorite subjects while families too were frequently portrayed in his works. However, he also looked beyond the real world and drew inspiration from the contemporary stage. Many of his paintings were also based on mythological, religious and historical subjects. However, in each of them, one can decipher an ethical message hidden beneath an inherent sense of humor. What is more, there are few artists who are as prolific as Jan Steen was. He painted more than eight hundred pictures, out of which three hundred and fifty have so far been traced. He did not have any known student, but his works have inspired many. Well known genre painter, Richard Brakenburg, is considered to be one of his followers" --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Enchanted Journey Enchanted Journey by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100799 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ Kevin MacLeod - Evening Fall Harp Evening Fall Harp by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100236 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ Chris Zabriskie - Androids Always Escape Androids Always Escape by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://chriszabriskie.com/honor/ Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters (By donating at least 50$ you'll have acces to all artworks (JPEG files) collection already posted on this channel!) Jules Pascin: A collection of 407 works (HD)

Description: "Jules Pascin was a Bulgarian-born French Expressionist painter. Known under the pseudonym of the “Prince of Montparnasse,” Pascin mainly painted women
, in a fleeting, gestural aesthetic akin to the movements of Fauvism or Cubism. Born in Vidin, Bulgaria on March 31, 1885 to an affluent Sephardic Jewish family, he was educated in Austria and Germany before moving to Paris in 1905. There, he quickly found artistic popularity and became associated with the Modernist movement. He regularly exhibited prints and drawings in various important Parisian salons, including the Salon des Indépendants and satellite exhibitions of the Berlin Secession. Despite achieving success in Europe and North America—Pascin became a naturalized US citizen with the help of Alfred Stieglitz in 1920—he never achieved the critical discourse he craved. Eventually succumbing to depression and alcoholism, he took his own life on the eve of an important solo show on June 5, 1930 at the age of 45. Pascin’s work was appreciated throughout his life and beyond, marked by such achievements as his inclusion in the notorious 1913 Armory Show in New York. Today, his work can be found in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Louvre in Paris, the Art Institute of Chicago, and others."
