Roger Fry: A collection of 119 paintings (HD)

Roger Fry: A collection of 119 paintings (HD) Description: "Roger Eliot Fry was an English painter and critic, and a member of the Bloomsbury Group. Establishing his reputation as a scholar of the Old Masters, he became an advocate of more recent developments in French painting, to which he gave the name Post-Impressionism. He was the first figure to raise public awareness of modern art in Britain, and emphasised the formal properties of paintings over the "associated ideas" conjured in the viewer by their representational content. He was described by the art historian Kenneth Clark as "incomparably the greatest influence on taste since Ruskin ... In so far as taste can be changed by one man, it was changed by Roger Fry". The taste Fry influenced was primarily that of the Anglophone world, and his success lay largely in alerting an educated public to a compelling version of recent artistic developments of the Parisian avant-garde" --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Nicolas Tarkhoff: A collection of 130 paintings (HD)

Nicolas Tarkhoff: A collection of 130 paintings (HD) Description: "Nicolas Alexandrovitch Tarkhoff (Tarkoff) was a Russian-born Impressionist. Born in Moscow on January 20, 1871 to a merchant family he studied painting and drawing. Tarkhoff was known as the “Moscow Parisian,” because he spent so much of his life in France -- from 1898 until his death in 1930. A member of the World of Art and the Union of Russian Artists, Tarkhoff began drawing at the age of twenty-four. After an unsuccessful attempt to enroll at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, he studied under Konstantin Korovin. At the age of twenty-eight, Tarkhoff made his first visit to Paris, where he studied drawing and began actively working and exhibiting. He moved there permanently in 1899. In 1906, he held a one-man show at the gallery of Ambroise Vollard, the famous Parisian art dealer who championed all the leading French Impressionists. Sergei Makovsky, Alexander Benois and Kazimir Malevich all wrote about Tarkhoff’s oeuvre. In his lifetime, his works were acquired by such famous connoisseurs of art as Schukin, Troyanovsky, Zeitlin, Diaghilev and Rothschild and artists like André Derain and André Lhote. In 1911 he purchased property in Orsay, France where he lived until his death on June 5th, 1930. He exhibited in the “Salon de Indpendants” in 1917, 11, 14, 19-21 and the “Salon d’Automne” in 1901 and 1913 and again between1923 and 1929. The posthumous fate of Nicolas Tarkhoff was less illustrious. For many years, his name was excluded from the history of Russian art. The words of Sergei Makovsky, written in 1910 following an exhibition of the artist’s works at the editorial offices of Apollo, still remain relevant today: “Tarkhoff is still little known and poorly appraised in Russia. It is high time that we Russians understood that Tarkhoff is a great and original talent. It is time to bow down to his profoundly veritable, sincere and wonderful creativity." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Mesmerize Mesmerize by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1500005 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters (By donating at least 50$ you'll have acces to all artworks (JPEG files) collection already posted on this channel!) Kees van Dongen: A collection of 290 works (HD)

Kees van Dongen: A collection of 290 works (HD) Description: "Kees van Dongen was born on January 1, 1877, in Delfshaven near Rotterdam. Early in his artistic endevours, he was inspired by the Impressionists and influenced by their style. Van Dongen studied at the academy of Rotterdam but did not finish his studies there. He earned his livelihood working for the magazines "Groene" and "Rotterdam Neusblad." His racy drawings of life around the habor were published with great scandal. In 1897, he went to Paris, where he lived in Bateau-Lavoir. There he worked as an illustrator for "Revoue Blanche" and "L'assiette au Beurre." In 1903, van Dongen exhibited his works publicly for the first time, and later he showed with Matisse in the Vollard Gallery. The Dutch painter became associated with the group "Fauves" (wild beasts) in 1905. Nonetheless, his affinity for the German Expressionists can be recognized in his works. Indicative of his work is the intense use of color, which increased the expressiveness of his paintings. In 1908, he became a member of the group of German Expressionists "Die Brücke" (the Bridge) and exhibited with them. At the end of World War I, van Dongen was discovered by the upperclass. He then painted many portraits, becoming a chronicler of the 1920's and 1930's. His expressive portraits, likenesses, and landscapes received much appreciation and achieved success through his unique coloring. Kees van Dongen died on May 28, 1968, in Monte Carlo." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Almost in F - Tranquillity Almost in F - Tranquillity by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100394 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: LearnFromMasters01@gmail.com SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters (By donating at least 50$ you'll have acces to all artworks (JPEG files) collection already posted on this channel!) Samuel Peploe: A collection of 270 paintings (HD)

Description: "Born in Edinburgh in 1871 and educated at the Collegiate School in Charlotte Square, Samuel John Peploe had good academic ability but no interest in the professions, preferring to walk, sail or sketch.

By 1893 he was enrolled for classes in The Trustees' Academy, the forerunner of Edinburgh College of Art, and the following year was in Paris at the Academie Julian under the neo-classicist William Bouguereau, and later at the Academie Colarossi. Long study nurtured his natural ability and helped him perfect an early style based on the Dutch masters.

From 1901, Peploe began a lifelong habit of taking painting trips to northern France and to the Hebrides, with J D Fergusson. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Glasgow Institute from 1900 and had his first one-man show at the Scottish Gallery in 1903.

By 1906 his earlier still life and figure paintings, characterised by dark backgrounds, gave way to paler colours, greys and pinks. This was in part due to a move to a new, lighter studio in York Place. His second exhibition in 1909 was successful but his eyes were turning to Paris and the next year he moved and married Margaret MacKay whom he had met on a painting trip to Barra in 1894. France liberated his palette as evidenced by Fauvist panels painted in Royan (1910), Cassis (1911, 1913) and in Paris. His stuido paintings show the influence of Van Gogh and de Segonzac.

The Peploes came back to Edinburgh in 1912 with dozens of paintings much too advanced for Edinburgh. Rejected by his old dealer, Peploe put on his own show a the New Gallery in Shandwick Place, where the Society of Eight had their inaugural exhibition in the same year. For the next fifteen years Peploe retained a brilliant palette, evolving a mature style containing elements of Cezanne, the Jazz Age and Matisse. By the late 1920's he had reverted to a more sonorous, tonal painting, still enlivened by brilliant colour chords, but weightier and cooler.

In 1933 he taught two terms at the College of Art in Edinburgh, making a considerable impact. Best known for his still lifes of tulips, Peploe had a wide range of subjects including figure painting and particularly landscape. "
